85HP FORCE

I OWN A BOAT WITH A 85HP FORCE ENGINE. MY BOAT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AND NOW IT WON'T START. THE SPARK PLUGS ARE FIRING AND IT WILL TURN OVER IF I USE STARTING FLUID IN THE CARB. COULD YOU GIVE ME SOME POINTERS.

Pointer #1 -- stop using starting fluid or you will be able to use the engine for an anchor -- there is no lubrication in starting fluid. Use a squirt bottle with premixed fuel. 1) Do a compression check. 2)If you have spark the engine is not getting fuel. 3) does the primer bulb get firm when pumped (e.g., is fuel getting to the carbs. 4) does the choke system work. 5)carbs probably need cleaning/rebuilding.
