85hp force

Just put the boat in the water has an 85 hp force started and just let it idel pumped water good but the cover started to get to hot to touch i turned it off and couldent get it started agin wondering what the issue could be idk why it got hot causd it was pumping water im just new to this boat stuff

Did it ever start again?
Do a compression test.

Then pull the lower unit and replace the impeller.
Even if it "looks" good replace it.

Make sure when you buy the replacement it's the right one.
F523065-1 about 20$

There is a screw on the side of the lower unit, don't touch it.
It's an anchor pin for the shift linkage and if removed it's B to replace.

The oil drain is on the bottom of the nosecone.

Test the overheat alarm.
There is an orange lead in the wiring harness.
Key on, ground the orange lead to the block.
An alarm (under the dash) should go off .

If not figure out why??

Then pull the thermostat and see if it's good.
Test it in a cup of hot tea water.

While the drive is off, hook a hose to the water tube and see if it flushes through the system?
