85hp merc help!

[help me boat]

Hello have an 80s merc 85hp outboard,<br />starts runs but at full power it loses power,<br />throttle down it comes back to life then throttle up it loses power again???<br />also bulb goes soft<br />any ideas where to start<br />Thanks

Fuel pump or air getting into your fuel line.

Bulb should stay hard, if it goes soft the bulb is not holding pressure. Use new merc bulb not wally. Like N42 says check lines for air leaks, I had several . Also think about fuel pump rebuild, kits are about $10.00 for my 91.

Just a thought, since I had a simmilar problem - Any chance the fuel tank vent isn't open, could be clogged. Try running it with the cap off, but not with a full tank for obvious reasons. I felt like a ding dong when I forgot the vent, very frustrating.

Any time a bulb goes flat then the line or something in the tank is restricting the fuel flow

Ok i will try new bulb and see what happens if this dont work i will try fuel pump kit thanks let you all know thanks again.<br />will make sure cap is open also!<br />Jason
