I was putting the stator back on my powerhead and felt I should double check something that looks odd to me. The stator was mounted with 2.75" long, 1/4-20 thread, 5/16 hex washer head (washer and hex head is one piece). It's easy to recognize these bolts because the small heads look a bit odd on a 1/4-20 bolt. The bolts also each have split lock washers on them.

The parts catalog does not show the lock washers and doesn't specify the size of the bolts. I don't feel right about tightening these down on the stator and I'm wondering if they even belong there. Oh, and the stator part# is 583104.

Can anyone tell me if the above bolt is the right size and type, and if lock washers should be used with it?

Thanks!

You are right, the parts book doesn't show much.

If this hardware was holding the last stator in place,I think I'd stay with it.And use Loc-tite.

DHP

Some of these 2.750 - 1/4-20 bolts also had a Allan socket head. Early stators were held down with a #10 screw with a phillips head. The 1/4 bolt locks down the stator much more securely, as DPHMARINE said use a drop of loc-tite.
