I finally gave up and took it in to the shop. That motor starts easily on the first pull and purrs like a kitten....up until half throttle...then she'd die out...oh she'd fire right up again when you give her a pull and move around fine until you got around that half throttle mark.
So I pull it into my garage and change the coils, plugs and wires then i put in all new fresh fuel. One tank gets this fuel stabilizer/detergent motor cleaner stuff (just a dash) and the other tank gets octane booster. Take her for a test drive. No dice. Doing the same thing again. Back into the garage. I had noticed on my test drive that there was no water pouring from the motor ("pee stream") so i pull the line and find she's clogged solid. Well that must be my problem i say. Clean her out and back down to the dock thinking full well that all is right in this motors world......and i'm wrong again. Dang it! Back into the garage.
So here i am thinking well, the fuel is good, good spark, each cylinder holds 90 pounds easy. The fuel lines are all new as is the fuel filter. It HAS to be the carb. Never having touched an outboard carb before i cautiously remove it and proceed to clean all of the orifices i find. However, there was absolutely nothing in that carb to clean out. As far as carbs go it was clean as a whistle. The diaphragm and all other gasket bits and channels squeaky clean as well.
So at this point i put her back together and write down every single thing i did in point form and head off to the marine mechanic. The guy at the front desk that fills out my work order and after reviewing my list mumbles something to the effect of "sounds like an electrical problem". The one thing i didnt check. Although i'm not sure how i am quite postive that i could have figured it out. Now i am anxiously awaiting the return of my motor and the prognosis!!
Just thought i would share with yall! :)
