86 35hp Shift Linkage Connector Adjustment?

I am a new Force engine owner, I recently replaced the impeller in the lower drive and when putting it back together and once I got it back in the water and tried to take off I only had reverse. Does anyone have the proper adjustment spec or instructions on how to get it correct again. I took it back apart and adjusted the collar down and with the muffs on I have forward but I don't want to ruin anything or cause any future problems. Any help would be great

The coupler has a lock nut.
If you screwed the coupler on and went past the original spot it can miss a gear.
Reset the coupler and lock nut at different spots. Experiment with different spots.

Turn the prop by hand as your experimenting with different spots...there are directions on how to adjust...maybe find on web search.
I had to adjust shift rod once...cant remember exactly how I did it...it was not fun.
