Quick question, I just got a used 86 9.9 that looks almost new, I want to rebuild the waterpump because the previous owner was not sure it had ever been replaced and when I ran it last weekend it pumps a a stream out the pee hole, but it is not a strong stream.

I got the rebuild kit which I got today and ordered a shop manual which has not arrived yet. The question I have is there is no gasket in the kit, does this waterpump not require one or do you just need to use sealent like permatex #2 (non harding) I looked at the info on http://www.sschapterpsa.com/ramblings/Lower_unit.htm and he did not mention a gasket or sealent.

Any help is appreciated.

No gasket or sealant required. Do yourself a favor and get a service manual for that outboard. It will save you beaucoup time.

Re: 86 9.9 Evinrude Water pump Question

I got the shop manual and reviewed everything and this morning dropped the lower unit and replaced the water pump. Everything went fine and the pump needed to be replaced.

I started it up with muffs and it had a really good stream of water coming out of the pee hole. I noticed there was water coming out of the drain hole on the port side of the unit. I don't remember if water came out of here or not when I ran it before with the muffs. Is this normal?
