86 90HP Merc keeps blowing rectifiers

Help, I am still trying to trouble shoot this problem and need a little tech help. Could it be that the key switch is shorted inside? Does anyone know how to trouble shoot the "Commander" side mount key switch? Should there be coninuity on the red/yellow wire at the switch when I turn the key to start? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
