welcome aboard

first, the raw water pump is on the front of the motor. check to make sure the impeller is in good shape. also check the raw water inlet casting. these drives need the muffs and a plug on the lower pickup

regarding the propeller, is your drive shift cable connected?

Thanks Scott. Yes the impeller is in good condition, I have the out drive submerged in water. The drive shift is conected. Everything was working before taking the engine out but know this problem. engine runs the accelerator work from the control but the propeller dosn't engage. I even changed the upper pivot gasket on the out drive with no luck.

When the engine was installed are sure the flex plate was mounted on the flywheel ? With the drive shifted in forward how easy is it to turn the propeller? Is there any resistance?

Submerging your drive generally won't work since the pump is above the water level and it won't self prime. You need muffs to get water to the pump.

Not sure how your cable engages your drive, but I would disconnect the cable and see if you can shift the drive manually with your hands. Also check for smooth operation of the cable while disconnected.

Thank you Kenny. I found that the shifter cable dosn't apear to be working. If I push the shifter level foward it doesn't engaged the transmission.

Horigan thanks to you as well well it seem to be pushing water with me holding the muffs and covering the bottom hole but otherwise it doesn't pump water won't pump in

Like the previous poster said, the pump won't pump in water by just submerging the drive in a bucket of water unless you mean that the boat is in the water and it isn't pumping.

Thanki bruced58. The drive is in the water running no water pumping. Should I take it to the lake ad see if it pumps. Would that meke a different. Just don't understand if it is in a barrel of water running it won't pump water but it would in a lake.

In a lake the water level is above the pump, so the inlet of the pump is full of water. In a bucket the water level is below the pump and the inlet only has air in it. Impeller pumps aren't very good at pulling air up the inlet. It needs to be primed so the inlet is full of water. That's why you need muffs, to get water to the pump inlet.

Glad that helped.

PS: If you've been running the raw water pump dry trying to run it in a bucket, you've likely damaged the impeller vanes. They don't last very long (20-30 seconds) when run dry. I suggest replacing or at least inspecting the impeller.
