Hi
Ive replaced my 86 merc 140 with a 2002 mod 140, I put the old fuel pump on the new engine, and now it doesnt deliver gas to the carburator, wont this pump work on this engine, or can I have done something wrong when I have installed it. Or can the pump been damaged when it hasnt been fuel in it this winter.I belive this is a Carter fuel pump, it has the filter on the top.
I have only turned the engine over to check this.
Regards
Affa

I'm Not Sure,
But, Does the 140hp use the Fuel Pump Drive Rod ??????
Or, Does it drive Directly off the Cam ????????

About Every Other Chevy uses a pushrod..............

It is a direct drive pump, no pushrod. I swapped from a 1988 to a 2002 and have no probs with the pump on my setup.

Maybe the 86 had a pushrod? If so you need the newer pump.

Thanks
I got it working.
I filled the carburator with gas, and a little while after it started, the gas came in the fuel line, there was no push rod on mine pump either.
Thanks again
Affa
