Got a Fuel Leak on a 86 DT 115 on the bottom Carb. Anyone know what the most likely cause is? Link to video below.

Took the carb off. I guess when the bowl fills up the float goes up and is supposed to push the needle and shut off the flow of fuel into the bowl. Is that correct? If so I should be able to blow in the connection where the fuel enters the carb then push in on the needle and the air flow should stop correct?

If not then what the valve needs to be replaced or is there another option?

Removed the Needle Valve assembly then carefully removed the pin. There was a bunch of black gunk around it. Cleaned that off and it slid back in the housing easily and slid back and forth easily.

Put everything back together and it runs like a champ without a leak..

What is the purpose of the small spring loaded piece at the tip? Seems like the float could just push on the large piece without adding that complexity.

I see shelac from old fuel or lack of carb maintenance. Those carbs need stripping and cleaning. The needle is probably sticking or not seating.
Strip and soak in Gunk carb and parts cleaner follow instructions on the can. Fit new gaskets and all should be well. The needles and seats may need replacing also.
