Hi,

I am going to rebuild by DT2 this weekend (powerhead & water pump). I have the motor completely broken down & just recieved all of my parts yesterday. My question is "What special lubes & sealants will I need to complete this job properly?" Will they be universal...or do I need to by only Suzuki factory products?

Thanks,

Mas

Re: '86 DT2 Rebuild lubes & sealants

The manual recommends the following:

Water resistant crankshaft spline grease (Suzuki part # 99000-25610)
Thread-lock 1342 for head bolts etc. (part # 99000-32050)
Water resistant grease for the propeller shaft & crankcase o-ring (part # 99000-25160)
Suzuki Bond #4 for the crankcase halves (part # 99000-31030)

The manual does not mention to use headgasket sealant...but I sure scraped a bunch off...inadvertant omission???

Thanks for your help,

Mas

Thread-lock 1342
u can use loctite

Suzuki Bond #4 for the crankcase halves
i use 1211 for pwc

Water resistant grease for the propeller shaft
any good water grease

Water resistant crankshaft spline grease
this is used so the spline has oil on it before turning it over

Re: '86 DT2 Rebuild lubes & sealants

use gel seal or its loc tite equivalent on the crank case halves, a good non mettalic based water resistenat grease on the splines,2 stroke oil on the shiney parts inside and PST with teflon on most the fasteners.
I use the PST on headbolts.
use perfect seal or BRP gasket sealing compund on the other gasket surfaces.
use acetone or similar solvent to insure the mating surfaces are clean and oil free before applying sealants.
I dont reccomend the locquick primer as it kicks off the sealant very rapidly and can create a shimming effect.

Re: '86 DT2 Rebuild lubes & sealants

So if I'm reading you correctly, do you recommend that I use a sealing compound for the head gasket?

Tell me if I'm correct..on the gasket of the powerhead to drive shaft housing there is a bead of some "black compound" all along the gasket. Is this some type of gasket compound that activates when the motor heats up so no additional compound is required??

The water resistant grease for the o-ring for the lower end of the crank shaft...should this be "high temp grease" and different from the the grease for the prop shaft??

Also, what does PST stand for?

One other thing, there appears to be either salt build-up or aluminum oxide in the water jacket of the powerhead--I'm thinking the latter. What is the best way to remove such deposits? Is there a solution that can be poured to dissolve the deposits without damaging the Aluminum??

Sorry for all the additonal questions, I just want to do it correctly.

Thank you for your help.

Re: '86 DT2 Rebuild lubes & sealants

only good method I ever saw for scale removal is the old manual method with a pick.
most the gaskets I will wipe with perfect seal even the head gaskets.
but most modern gaskets do have a heat activated surface.
PST is Pipe Sealant with Teflon. works very well for aiding in future removal.
take your time and study your manual and cleanliness is absolutly imperative.
just use a good quality water resistant grease but make sure its not a mettalic based grease if used in saltwater
