86 force 125 no start

ok first im new to the site. ok mow ive got a 1986 force 125 i bought a couple months ago i got the boat with a sheared flywheel key seller stated form hitting something in the water, dont know if it is even possible. anyway i replaced the key now i cant get it to fire i get a loud backfire and ever once in a while it sputters like its going to start HELP PLEASE!!

Backfire sounds like the key wasn't installed right?Yes you can shear a key from hitting something.
Maybe do a compression test before you try anything else?
Check the magnet under the flywheel,make sure it's still glued in place.
Comp OK? Then check for TDC.this makes sure ethe key is ok.
