86 johnson 9.9 water comes out hole but not pee hole in middle

Hi < I replaced water pump etc. and hooked hose to copper intake water comes out hole on r. side of motor underneath( tube feeds it from a small block.) no real water comes out pee hole. Is this a concern prior to reassembly? After reinstalling lower unit and testing does water come out of pee hole or is it some time till thermostat allows it? Thanks Tim

To the best of my knowledge, water should come out of the tell-tale with a hose attached to the water tube. You should get water out of the tell-tale with the engine running within 10-15 seconds. The tell-tale is before the thermostat so it does not have to open before the tell-tale squirts water.

Above post if right as rain. Sounds like the grommet at the top of the water tube may have collapsed (which blocks flow). With a garden hose and city pressure water should shoot across the room. Possibly water passages in the engine. You could pull the stat and try back flushing from there. A little history would help maybe. Best of luck. Rick.
