Im trying to get my 86 larson ski boat running again. Its got a mercruiser 170 with alpha one outdrive. First i need to know what color wires go to the trim gauge sending unit. Ive got a green and tan tied off together. There the only two wires really left that are close to the gauge(been a long time since apart and had to pull gauge cluster). also is there an adjustment on the sending unit if its not reading right?

Re: 86 larson 170 merc trim issues

after looking into the trim some more i noticed the wires coming off the port side trim switch are corroded. that switch was hooked up to the pump directly. the other side it wired to the gauge. Although having the gauge would be nice i dont see it being that necessary. Can i wire the starboard trim switch to the pump and use it as the limit switch? is there a difference between the two? does the switch just limit the up movement or does it stop it from going down to far as well? if i was to rebuild the switch with a kit you can get will i be able to put new wires on the switch?

also whats the fastest/easiest way to remove outdrive to get to the wires?
