My brother's '86 Mariner 50 has what appears to be a weep hole near the #1 cylinder spark plug. While it is running, water runs out of it. I couldn't find any reference to the hole or its purpose in the Clymer's manual .
The same engine has a fuel problem after the engine has for a while under load. We had been putting down the local river after which we headed to open water. Almost immediately, the engine lost rpm and the fuel bulb was fairly soft. I pumped the bulb enugh to keep us going and we headed for the dock. The fuel line and bulb are new. The fuel vent on the tank was open.
Any ideas?

WaterJacket cover gasket needs to be replaced..or the WaterJacket cover itself.

As for the fuel problem...rebuild the fuel pump.

TMD

Just a little note to go along with what the Marine Doctor said. There is a very inexpensive fuel pump rebuild kit for those engines. I believe $15.00 to $20.00. Check them out. Good Luck

Thanks for the info. I am glad to hear the carb kits are pretty inexpensive as it doesn't look to be much to them. The water jacket cover looks fairly easy as well.
I will let you know how it goes.

I recently have had a similar problem with my '79 70 Merc. Come to find out the connection between the external tank and the fuel line had backed out a few turns allowing it to suck air. As for the fuel pump rebuild I did mine yesterday and it was very easy to rebuild. You should have no trouble tackling it.
