86' Merc 150. NO spark on 1,3,5 cylinders

I don't know anything about mercs. I have a friend who just picked up an old merc. The owner fired up the engine in front of him and had fire on all 6 cylinders. Now he mounted it on his boat and he's not getting fire on 3 cylinders. Do they have a shift interupt switch like the Johnsons or is there something else that is causing this?

It has lost a switch box or stator, change the positions of the red and red white wires and the blue and blue white wires on the switch boxes if the problem goes to the even number cyls then it's the stator or if it stays the same then it's a switch box

Thank you sir. Looks like my friend has to swap out the stator. Good news is...he found one on ebay for 80.00 beans.d New in a box.
