Hello
I have the mercruiser 3.7 with the volatage regulator stator on the block. How do you check to see if they are both work and chargeing the batteries fine? I made some brackets for a alternator. But my engine cover hits the alternator. Now iam useing a normal 3 wire marine alternator. Is there a difference in size between a one wire and a 3 wire?

I'm sorry, but your posting is confusing. Are you using the OEM stator that's on the front of the motor and the water cooled voltage regulator? Or are you using a external alternator?

I would think you'd need a voltage tester or multipurpose electronic tester to check the voltage running and not running.

When running the voltage at the battery should be around 14 volts DC.

Yes as of right now my boat has the oem charging system with the stator and the water cooled voltage regulator. How do i test the voltage regulator and see if its work right and charging the battery? Do i do this at idle or have my rpms up a little bit ?
I want to convert mine to the alternator kit soon. I made brackets at work and they hold a normal marine 3 wire alternator fine just hits engine cover alittle bit. But i didnt know if a one wire alternator is smaller then a normal three wire. cause if its then i dont have build a new engine cover.

IMG_0381.jpgIMG_0380.jpgIMG_0376.jpgHey everyone thanks for the help so far. I think everything is fine but i want to make sure. Before I started my boat my meter read 12.62 volts. Then started my boat after it got warm i ran it 2200 rpm and the meter was reading 13.23 volts. I dont know how close i have to be to the 14 volts. But I think this mean its working. Please let me know what you think.
