I recently bought a '17 bass tracker with '86 Mercury 50. She runs nice but i have been looking at what needs to be addressed. i noticed that the prop might need to be replaced. this guy recommended me to propco and i emailed them but they asked me about pitch? and rpm's. i don't have a tach installed so i don't know about the rpm's. as far as pitch i saw these numbers on the prop. 48 73132 A40 10P. Any suggestions? Anyone ever deal with propco before?

Re: '86 Mercury 50 prop questions

Can't tell you anything about propco.I can tell you that without base line performance info there is no way to tell anything about your present setup.
I should add that it is criticle the motor operates within its reccomended rpm.
Normally need at least Max rpm and speed and prop demensions. Not an expert on prop numbers but it would appear your prop is a 10" pitch.
If your prop is damaged you can have it repaired at a prop shop. Then you can get a tach ,A tiny tach may work,a GPS is best for checking speed.Speedometers are notoriously inaccurate.Once your set you can get your performance figures. You should fine tune your setup.Verticle height is the easiest way to pick up performance. If you check the posts here it is discussed over and over. When the setup is ideal then you can address prop
upgrade.
