86 OMC 4.3 L- engine water leak top left rear

I have a water leak at the top of my 1986 OMC 4.3L inboard engine, left rear (when facing engine). Maybe this is the water outtake? Any ideas on what this problem is and the part I will need to fix it? Guess I didn't winterize the boat properly this time. <br />Any help would be appreciated!

Can you track down the leak? sounds like it may be a cracked exhaust manifold.<br />Hook the water hose up and run the engine to operating temp..try to find out exactly where its coming from.<br />Also is the engine missing?<br />WELCOME TO IBOATS..

I found the leak. It is a metal cylinder bolted on a bracket to the back of the engine. It has water hoses attached to each end and two additional hoses attatched to the side with oil or hydralic fluid. Looks like this is used to cool the fluid. <br /><br />Does anyone know what this part is called?

Do you have power steering? If so, that would be the Power Steering fluid cooler. or, it could be an engine oil cooler.

Yes I just found out that out after searching. Now I just need to find the part or get this one resoldered!<br /><br />Thanks for the reply...

Ben, IMO you really should find an owners/service manual for your boat/engine...You need to be able to ID these parts before even thinking about how to repair them.....

Wow Mr Will..that thing is expensive! I hope mine never goes bad. The one i was looking at on marine parts was 69 bucks...mmmm? It must have been for a 4.3 merc..

I just dropped the part off at a radiator shop to be resoldered for $40. They have done them before. A local marine wanted $280 for a new one!<br /><br />Thanks everyone for all your help!

DougRussell Marine is NOT a discount shop. With some searching...you usually can find what you need for 2/3 - 1/2 the price...but if you are in a bind...they "usually" can get anything. I usually use their site to find the part I am looking for...then I can search for the part number easier.<br /><br />-JMW
