To follow up on my post on 5/30 (86 OMC 4.3 L- engine water leak top left rear). After replacing my oil cooler, I started my boat fine, no leaks. Then oil and water starts coming out of my valve covers. Looks like I have a cracked block or manifold. My first question is how I get this cleaned out of my engine ASAP? Next question, some advice on how to proceed? How do you troubleshoot on where the problem is? I usually do all my own work on cars and boats, but this might be a little too much to take on. I am sure to fix this at a marina would be a small fortune. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. I am so bummed.. :(

First thing is YES! GET THE WATER OUT NOW! Drain the oil, refill. Pull all spark plugs and turn the engine over, clearing out all cylinders, and spray some WD40 down each cylinder. Then read this: WATER INTRUSION.

Follow the steps and report back.

Keith, I noticed you are in Toledo. I work in Ann Arbor. Is there anyone that you could recommend in Toledo that could do a quality job for a fair price? I am going to try and drain the oil and pull the plugs tonight, unfornuately my boys have baseball... Thanks, Ben

At the moment, I personally know of no one. I'm sure there is, but none I can vouch for.

Didn't have allot of time last night but I did drain the most of the oil (and water) and pulled a couple plugs. There was some water on the plugs. I will change the oil & filter this afternoon, pull the plugs, clear the cylinders and lubricate.

Now what can I do to determine where the problem is? If it’s a manifold problem I think I can tackle that, if it’s the block, that may be a little too much. I got my first quote of $3500 to do the repair. Ouch! The guy was referred by a friend.

If you follow the troubleshooting procedure in the water intrusion bulletin, you should be able to narrow it down.
