Hi everyone we purchased an 86 sunrunner recently and was doing some cosmetics on the inside. The boat ran fine until I had to take the throttle shifter apart to replace the wood brace on the side. I don't know if a bad shifter is causing the boat to not start now or if it could be a relay of some kind that may have popped as my boyfriend was reconnecting all the battery cables? Was going to run out and buy a new throttle shifter either way but also figured I would ask if anyone knows how to troubleshoot this to see if it could be a relay and if so which one I'm not even sure which one is the ignition relay. If someone could please help with any information as to what I should look at first that would be great! Thanks in advance!

So I figured out how to get it started it was the Neutral safety switch. But now I am confused on the throttle shifter itself. It seems as though it is not set properly to start in neutral. It's a GM motor with a right side, side mount shifter an older one part

3888313 I'm looking for a diagram of how it is put together to make sure it is set correctly but can not find one. It seems to go from forward throttle and if you push it far enough it seems to pull the reverse. I know that may sound confusing lol. Basically just need an idea of how this thing is supposed to work before I spend the money on a new one. Sorry new to this.
