Good day all - I have been getting the boat ready for the water (a little late in the season I know), but I am working on lowering the idle speed of the motor.

What should the idle rpm be set at? Right now at idle the boat is running at about 1100 rpm. In my opinion, I think it should be lower, but I'm running out of room on the cable adjustment to get it lower.

Thanks again for the help!

Connect the idle stabilizer wire to the switch box if you have one. Install a tachometer to the powerhead. Operate the engine in a adequate size test tank or body of water.

Shift the unit into FORWARD gear. Rotate the idle speed adjusting screw to obtain approximately 650 rpm. The cables from the control box MUST match the engine after the adjustments have been made or the adjustment will be lost.

Re: 87 115hp idle rpm

Not sure if this helps but the three carbs I pulled out of my '84 I6 90hp had the needle set levers bent and uncalibrated to proper specs. Sometimes the needles get worn as well and keep letting fuel slip by. Also, check the choke solenoid sometime. I took mine and disconnected the incoming and out going side, put on a clean hose to do a blow thru test and luckily mine did not allow any air pressure to go thru. I know it opens as I have heard that but I did not check to see if the opening is actually letting the stop flow part lift and work properly or if it is just clicking and the valve is stuck closed. Since this area by passes your carbs and dumps it directly into the engine intake side, I'd check that part first before delving into the carbs.
