'87 225 "E" won't stop

My E vinrude v-6 keeps running when I shut it down. Seems like one side is still firing and I have to shut off the gas to get it to stop. Anyone know what the problem is? Thanks

hey,sounds like the kill is working at the key but when the wire gets to the motor itsnot getting to one side.find thecorrect wire and check for continuity. key in the off position grounds out the motor.

Just wondering out loud, but will excessive carbon cause this?? I know it can on small motors. Apparently the carbon particles ignite/glow after the engine gets hot and this in turn ignites the fuel air mix??
