Put the boat in the water. Put in gear and the drive made an aweful whine. Took boat it of water, put in gear and no noise. Newbie. First thoughts?

Any oil in the gear box?

Did you grease the Gimbal bearing?

Howdy,

When it was in the water, in gear, "whining", were you also moving?

And when you were out of the water, in gear, was the propeller turning?

It's very possible that you have a spun coupler. That's exactly what it sounded like when it happened to me.

Get a flashlight and look behind the engine where the drive shaft goes into the engine. Do you see metal filings?

If you can, put the boat back into the water (leave it on the trailer)

Have someone put it in gear while you look at the back of the engine with a flashlight..... see if the drive shaft coming out of the back of the engine keeps turning when it's placed in either forward or reverse gear.

If it doesn't turn, (or stops turning when you put it in gear) you have a failed coupler. The drive & engine will need to be removed (in that order) to replace it.

If the drive shaft is turning once you're in a gear (in the water) then you may have a drive problem, lower shift cable problem, etc....

Oh.....and welcome to iBoats!!:D
