I got this boat for free. When I first got it, it would start but not keep running unless I kept choking it. Naturally, i figured it was the fuel pump. But i decided to run some seafoam thru the fuel (thinking the carbs were a little gummed) and after playing with it a bit... it would run on its own. Everytime I started it I would only have to press the choke a few times during the initial few cranks, i.e., a normal startup. It ran fine for the next week.

It has been sitting around for 1 1/2 months and now someone wants to buy it. However, I am having this same problem. What do you think the problem is. Dirty carbs?

The fuel had seafoam and some fuel stabilizer in it so I don't think this is a sour fuel problem.

Like I said before, once it "beats" this problem for the first time, it doesn't do it anymore.

Dirty carbs would be my first choice.

Dirty, fouled, gummed up carbs the first time and dirty, fouled, gummed up carbs this time. Tear them down and give them a good soaking.

Thanks guys-

Dirty carbs is what I suspected. Guess I will chop the price and tell the guy I can clean them for him. I didn't except to sell this till spring. Over the winter I was going to rebuild the carbs, replace the water pump setup, replace t-stat and head gasket. Oh well, his mini project now.

-andy
