87' 85 horse not running on lake

i have just bought an 87 bayliner capri the first day i had it out it ran fine took it out the next day ran good for a coupe of hours but then it lost power going forward could not get it to go more than 15-20 mph does not seem to get full throltle can put in in reverse and will get full throltle it sat for 2 years and only been ran 1 or 2 times the pre owner said please help

Generally speaking if an engine sits for a couple years the carbs and impeller should be removed and inspected.<br /><br />I would suspect that your engine has run lean...or overheated causing damage.<br /><br />Do a compression check on it.<br /><br />TMD

i did a compression test on th outboard they were all around 120 psi im going to get a manual and check the rest thanks but it puzzels me that when i put it in reverse it runs fine

At full throttle in Rev the prop might be breaking the surface of the water allowing it to turn easier.<br /><br />TMD
