I have a '87 johnson VRO 90. About 2 1/2 yrs ago I started having a problem with intermittant spark (both banks).
Eventually it came to the point that I have no spark (both banks). This engine is on a '40 house-
boat moured in a marina. I,m not going to pull it into a dealer on a trailer. One of the marina mechanics stopped
by and looked at the 20 amp fuse and declared it was good. I've since tested it with a meter
about 10X and its still good. He condemmed the stator (timing base) so I bought a new one
I was kinda leery since the guy who sold it to me said he had never sold one before. I installed
it and still had the same prob. I thought it unusual that I "killed" both power paks at the same time
I replaced one with a new unit, and still no spark to either bank. I thought possibly the lanyard
switch had gone bad, so I cut it off at the control and just to make sure I cut the blackw/yellow
tracer off the plug to the power paks. No spark. I'm no pro, but a fair "shade tree" and I need
some help. I should also mention that if this boat starts, it will run all day. It has never died while running down
the lake.

jrihyper@pacbell.net

Disconnect the black/yellow wires at the powerpacks and try it. If it runs check black/yellow wire for short to ground, shorted ignition switch.
