Re: 87 Bayliner Capri Weight questions
Two problems here--not enough info and wrong forum but, here goes a guesstimate.
Tongue weight should be approximately 10 percent of trailer gross weight to keep trailer towing properly. If you have a 125 I am guessing that your Capri is at least 18 foot. An 18 footer with engine and gear plus fuel and all other incidentals could weigh as much as 2200 lbs and the proper sized trailer would go 750-1000 pounds. So your gross could be as high as 3200 pounds in which case the tongue weight should be around 300-320 pounds.
If you do not have weight specs for the boat and you are having towing problems, take it to a local junkyard which has a scale, slip the weighmaster 5 or 10 bucks and weigh boat and trailer. Then you will have a dead accurate weight from which to work.
