87 Champion Leak

We just purchased an 87 Champion bass boat. We seem to have to bilge constantly. We have 2 live wells. We plugged up the drain for the boat and the intake for the live wells to make sure there was no issue there. We replaced the plugs with new ones so that it would not be the issue.

Every hour we have to bilge for about 4 minutes. This seems like a lot of water we are taking on but we can see no cracks or anyplace for water to get in.

How do we go about finding the problem?

Mike Alexander

Do you trailer the boat? You can put "some" water in the bilge with a hose to look for leaks while it's on the trailer.

Is that fiberglass or aliminum?

It is fiberglass. We do trailer the boat. would I just put water in from the drain plug? I don't know how else to get water in the hull.

Re: 87 Champion Leak

Thank you for your help. The leak was in the live well. The overflow tube was not sealed at the bottom. Any water that woudl go in teh live well woudl pour out into the hull.
