87 Force 125HP Outboard Propeller Issues

i have a new-to-me 87 force outboard that im trying to replace the propeller on. i took it to a marine supplier who sold us a prop that did not seem to fit the same as the previous one. after the supplier suggested removing the anode it seemed to fit fine. put it in the water and threw in reverse and the prop loosened the nut and the prop nearly came off. went back to the store, major apologies from the owner, put a slightly different prop on it, WITH anode, and with missing washer behind the nut. put in the water again, reverse went fine, then in forward started hearing a grinding sound (like metal on metal). went back to the dock and the prop was loose again.

seems all the research ive done leads me to one answer: original prop was discontinued and i will have to use something else.

any insight as to why the nut wont stay on? there is no cotter pin, just a locking nut and washer. thrust washer was in place both times.

a company in micihgan makes props for that engine and actually sells them on this site if you can return that one and order one of these, should fit easier. http://boatpropellers.iboats.com/Fo...dard&chart=31&engine_id=169&*******=330151724 note those are for single exhaust engines if you have 2 change the settings on top of page where it says change engine. good luck

I can't speak directly to the Force but most motors have a tab washer.You tighten the nut and bend the tabs to hold it tight.

No tabs on the older Forces.
Wave says Michigan prop sells them.
TALK to the people at Michigan.They can sell you what you need.
This site sells props and hardware too. boats.net can get you what you need.

thanks all for the replies. took it back to the store and heres what we discovered: the OLD thrust washer we had replaced with the one that came in the new hub kit was a bit larger, so we put the old one on. also added the star shaped nut behind the prop nut. will water test soon and post results.
