I have a 1987 force 50. It was recently running rough after I out new plugs in gapped at 30. Ran like crap so did a complete carb kit. Took out the reeds cleaned them and out new gaskets on the intake. I also rebuilt the fuel pump and filter is new with new gaskets as well. Bought a new fuel line and ball kit. Compression tested both at 130. Spark it good. Took her out still ran like crap. So I checked the plug gaps they were what is recommended. I was lucky I kept the old ones they were at 45. So i gapped them at 40. Took her out fired up great and idle smooth. I hit the throttle and full power not a issue. Ran for about 6-7 min at wot and it started to bog a little bit so I put her in neutral for about 30 seconds. Hit the throttle and full power for about 6 min. Did the same thing put in neutral for a min and full throttle again was full power. Anyone have any idea what could be going on

Is the motor running hot? Maybe check the tank vent?

Just tossing out ideas.

I just put in a new thermostat as well If it was overheating wouldnt it shut down Instead of me dropping it in neutral and then full throttle and run great like that.. their def allot of water spraying out the back. I'm using an older tank but the vent was open I also have New one that doesn't have a vent on it gonna try it next day or so.. just trying to get any extra knowledge in case that doesn't work I can try it out there. But I'm at a loss

Some motors will go into limp mode if they overheat, some don't. I don't about yours,

Has the impeller been replaced lately?

No limp mode on Chrysler and early Force's .
Not sure about the 95+ with Mercury ignition.
Sounds like the tanks vent is closed or the floats set wrong??

Maybe getting hot.

I only have had the boat for a year now I don't know when the impeller was replaced it spits water but If it was overheating wouldnt it shut down and not run till it cooled off. I mean I literally put it in neutral for less than 30 second and it good again for another 6-8 minutes of full wot throttle

And for the float is it adjustable I mean it just sits on a pin and moves up and down. Right?

Since you don't know when the impeller was changed, it would be a good idea to replace it. Impellers can do some funny things when they get old and hard. Also if any blades are missing, it could idle all day long without overheating and do just what you say at WOT. Impellers are a wear item and 2-3 years is the expected life.

The float does open and close as you say, but the adjustment is to set where it opens and closes. If it closes late, the motor floods. If if it opens late, the motor is starved for gas.

Do you have a manual?

Not necessarily so on the shutdown.
The Forces have an early warning system and it might not be working.
The sending unit is at the bottom of the head and can get fouled out.

Key on, at the cable connection strip, ground out the orange lead and the buzzer should sound off.

Replace the buzzer.
A car, motorcycle horn will work.
Be careful how you wire the horn it can be wired wrong and not work.

Drop the lower unit and change the impeller.
