'87 Force 85 trigger problem?

Ok, I have an 87 Force 85. I get no spark on #1. So I switched coils 1 and 2, but still no spark on 1. Then I switched the trigger wires for 1 to where #4 would be (red/white-green on the back module) and changed the appropriate trigger wire--red on the back module--but still no spark. I don't have a 1 1/8 socket to pull the flywheel, but I guess that's what I need to do... right?

Stator probably went south..a well known prob..

Great, thanks... how do I test for that, and where/how much to replace?

I don't know much electrical (I spin a pretty mean wrench though)
This will bump the post up..if no reply, start another thread with 85 hp bad stator in the sub line
