Re: 87 force

I'm new to this site, sorry 4 the lack of info. I have a 19 1/2 ft 87 bayliner. The prop is pretty chewed up. And the rpm gage doesn't wrk. The previous owner I think said the prop a like a 13-15 what ever that means. Sorry I don't no more. That's why I' m here I want to learn all I can. Im 60 and this is my first boat. Thanks

Re: 87 force

well i have almost the same boat and I had 17 on it originally PS623. it ran fine but I wanted a little more power for skiing and went to a 15 pitch. If your just cruising the 17 will be fine - part number 072107 - but if you take a lot of people or ski look at the 15 pitch 072055. This is all assuming you have the single exhaust - which an 87 should have to my knowledge. If you send a picture of your current prop while on the boat or the numbers on it it would tell us. I would tend to put a 15 pitch on that size boat - should be fine.

also wanted to add this picture of my prop - my engine is white but other than that I think it is the same. If you have the black plastic flare piece that you see on the back of my prop then the props I mentioned will work for you. The ones I mentioned are Michigan Match props and you can get them on iboats here or a lot of other places online.

Re: 87 force

If you Google " 1987 Force 125 gear ratio"; half way down the page you'll see a PDF of a 85/125 owner manual you can open and print.

The standard prop listed is a 13 X 19 ( that's what came on the boat from Bayliner). Since the heaviest model 19 ft Capri outboard weighs 1800 lbs(dry), I can't see going below a 17 pitch unless the boat has gained weight and/or the motor has lost a good bit of it's get up and go.

Gear ratio is 1.73 for the 125. Rpm range is 4500-5500. 125 hp @ 5000 rpm. Champion UL-18V spark plug. 50 to 1 gas/oil ratio. :)

A working tachometer is necessary to prop any boat.
