I just recently got the opertunity to by this boat that needs minimal work on the sub floor
with a trailer, from my brothers ex wives husband.
he said it ran great 2 yrs ago when he got it and that it was running on only three cyl. due to a bad coil?. could this be right and what other things should I check? He only wants 400 for all.
is it a good deal?

p.s. the motor is a 1984

Howdy, Tony.

If it is only down 1 cylinder, and that one has no spark the coil is a prime suspect.

Get a good battery on it and do a compression check. While you have the plugs out see if you can get spark on each cylinder.

Each cylinder should compress over 100psi, and the four should all be withing 15psi of each other.

If you are missing spark on one, switch the coil with a good cylinder and see if the problem moves with the coil.

Buy it? You have to decide that for yourself. There is no such thing as minimal work where rot is involved.

Good luck. :)
