87 Johnson 40hp rpm operating range

Hey Everyone,

I have a new to me 87, 40hp Johnson motor - and was wondering what the rpm range is on this?
Currently it's pushing an 18' pontoon and I have been running it around 3,000 to 4,000 rpm.
Does it have more? I don' want to push it....

4,500 to 5,500. What pitch prop are you running?

Thanks for the reply - I haven't been pushing the motor, tonight I'll see how far it will go.
As far as the prop - not too sure what's on there looks like a stock aluminum prop, I'll check it tonight.
