87 Mariner Mag 150 - Cuts Out

Need some ideas - Couple of problems - Sometimes motor cuts out when hitting chop at WOT - Sometimes acts like an RPM limiter kicks in and won't get up to WOT - Then just pops back up to full RPM - Warning bell all the time. All sensors have been replaced - power packs have been replaced - coils have been replaced - water pressure seems ok - tem seems ok - had it to a couple of local wrenches and have not been able to get results - boat used to run strong before mechanics worked on it, now about 50 mph top end when everything is going right - any thoughts????

Whats the warning horn sound like. YOU may have a problem with the oil system. Don't run the boat with the horn going off or it may cost you the motor! Good luck and let us know.<br />CU

Just a steady beep, beep, beep.... The oil sensor was replaced, this has gone on for several seasons. The oil resevior fills and it seems to use the normal amount of oil, smokes like normal also ;)

I've seen the oil pumps on these get weak and not pump properly, causeing the horn, and eventually the cylinders get damaged. If I were you I would check the compression to rule that out then find out why your alarm is going off. I had the same problem with my 85 150 xr2(intermitent oil horn) I think mine was a bad pump, anyway I bypassed the oil system and now I pre-mix. I know the cyclinders are now getting the right amount of oil. Running that motor with the horn beeping is flirting with disaster! (beep beep beep-OIL HORN-BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP-overheat horn) Good luck and let us know.<br />CU

It is the oil warning. Keeping in mind that it beeps ALL the time, could the cutting out when you hit a wake, the RPM drop and flucuation at WOT, and the periodic unable to obtain enough RPM to get on the pad be explained by this also? It all seemed to happen about the same time.
