Re: 87 merc 150 wont plane off, falls on face
Welcome to iboats,Jim. It could be fuel-related as much as ignition..And seeing how you have been down that path, let's rule ignition out. If you can get to your fuel tank and eyeball-check it for water and trash, this would be a good place to start.

Some of these engines have a 'tickler' built into the bowl, others do not. But at any rate, drain the fuel from the bowls, and see if any water comes-out.
Does the primer bulb go soft when it does this? If so,the fuel pump may need rebuilding.
does the primer collapse? If so, the fuel tank is not venting,or has a plugged pickup,or strainer at the end of the pickup. If you are running multiple remote tanks, and it does this on all of them, chances are,the tank aint your problem.
Can you prime the bulb to stiff, even if it takes 10 pumps or more? If so, your carb floats and needle valves are functioning good. If you have fuel spilling from any of the carbs durring pump-up, the problem is that carb(s) has a sticking float,or needle valve.
Sorry for all the "if's", but it really becomes
a regular checklist of troubleshooting ...a process of elimination when it come to the symptoms you are reporting.
Let us know how it goes. There are more items to check, such as air leak in fuel line, air leak in quick connects, carbon restrictions, or compression problems.
All of the above will cause surging, low RPM and low HP symptoms.
