87 MERC CLASSIC 50 SPARKING :(

my foward / reverse cable is sparking and really hot where it meets the motor area when its running NOT GOOD any ideas ????<br /><br />Thanks<br />Rick

That sounds like a control box short

It's probable a shorted wire in the wire harness, disconnect the cables from the engine and hook a voltmeter between them and the engine there should be no voltage there if you don't have a short if you don't have a voltmeter hook a 12 volt bulb between them if it lites you have a short if you do remove the box and ck the wiring inside it
