87 Mercury fails to restart

I have an 87 Merc 70 hp. When cold the motor generally fires right up. After using it for awhile it will turn over but not fire. While experimenting with it I removed a plug, grounded it and turned the motor over. It started right up.<br />I have repeated this other times when the motor wouldn't start and it generally will fire. Any suggestions?

welcome aboard,<br />normal causes of this are loss of prime in fuel<br />system or flooding of carb. is primer bulb soft?<br />any gas leaking from front of carbs?<br />good luck,<br />M.Y.

Thankyou for your suggestions. I've not observed any fuel leaking from carbs. I've disconnected fuel line near filter and there is good flow.
