My 87 Force Outboard Motor has been great but just recently I couldnt keep the motor idling without taking the motor cover off. As soon as the cover is off, it runs great! Once the cover is off and I leave the docks I throttle up and then put the cover back on and the motor runs fine. But, as soon as I throttle back to idle I must remove the cover of the motor or it will stall out. Is this a carb. problem that cant seem to breathe?

i just had the same problem i posted yesterday. someone told me to check the cowlings in the back of the engine for the water ports if they are missaligned or broken it could be letting exaust fumes into the intake. althou i havent had time to look at that yet it sounds like thats gonna solve it so check that out let me know..

Yup, sounds like you have an exhaust issue. there is a rubber boot on the back of the motor that carries the exhause and water out of the housing. If that is cracked, your housing will fill with exhaust, rather than air.
