I got this and my normal mechanic ( merc trained) said " get rid of that thing asap" I thought he was full of S**t ! But i"m beginning to see what he means. He cleaned and set the carbs Set everything he could and this blasted thing is hard to start...when it finally starts it idles so darn low you cant hear it running ( most of the time it just dies) and when you put it in gear it dies! ARGHHHHH!!!
Any constructive input would be great . I really cant afford to repower I do have a manual and aint afraid to turn wrenches!

OH yeah, and my trusty mechanic worked on this thing and promptly retired... took down his sign and everything! LOL:eek:

if you have the factory suzuki manual simply follow the steps.
start with a compression test and a spark test. if both pass move onto fuel system.
is the fuel pump diaphram leaking?
did trash get back into the carbs from dirty lines?
I havent worked on suzukis much since 95 and in the 87-89 years the V6's were changing the ign system and alarms and all my manuals are still packed up but I have them all through 95.
hopefully Ill get moved into the new place next month and Ill be able to get my stuff out of storage and back on the shelf.
but the 87 was a fairly simple system and not hard to test but the mikuni carbs are very touchy and the air fuel mixture screws, nlike yamaha, actually change the air/fuel ratio at idle.
they are also backwards from the rest of the known world and sometimes other brand techs get confused.
best I recall you screw them in for richer and out for leaner, nice thing is if you look on the oil tank you will see holes for access that have little symbols embossed in them normally.

Heheh, if you decide to throw it in the dump let me know. I have a 87 150SS, I just burned a piston on. I'll take a go around with your 200 anytime. I like them Suzi's! Like Supreme said, a bit touchy but a good motor. Just got to get them right. Takes a little adjustment there, a little tinker here. I bought a 88 150, this weekend and drove 400 miles to get it. Gonna try again. I either got trash in on jet or had bad gas and got to much water (no water separator filter), but gonna have lots of parts from my 87 to use on my 88. Starter, Tilt Trim, etc.
Your Merc guy just not happy you didn't buy a Merc.

ok, i contaced Thomas @ laurel marine in bristol tn. ( 6 hours from here) and he seems very helpful . He's thinking over my issues and says he'll call me back with what to check and do next. if that doesnt work can anyone recommend a GOOD {confident} suzuki mechanic in southern middle tn or north alabama?
