87 xr2 -- great when it is running

Hey guys,
I have an 87XR2 150hp the stators keep failing and the switch boxes. What would cause this to reoccur? This is the second or third time for both stator and switch boxes. My mechanic says
This is just a week link with this motor. I'm having trouble with that! Any suggestions?

What kind are ya buyin'? It is possible ta get New bad ones. Checked tha rectifier and regulator lately? Idle/advance stabilizer? It should have all three. Good grounds are a must. Every ground wire everywhere that has anything to do with tha motor. They are NOT a weak link.......

By any chance have you disconnected the battery while it is running, perhaps with a battery switch. They do not take well to that.
