First Post - Did search the forums like mad but haven't found the answers I'm looking for.
Motor is a 1987 2 Stroke 115 ETLH (Precision Blend) - Pushing a 16' Dyantrak Fish/Ski.
Ripped out to fish Walleye - boat ran great (and always has) .. As we headed to the launch about 1/4 way to plane the mottor rattled ( sounded like the starter was stuck in the raised position and was hitting the flywheel but was not).. I stopped - the noise stopped - inspected per usual and found nothing. I took off again and it did not do it.
Went out yesterday and the same thing happened heading out to fish. - At idle speed it stopped - but would intermittently come back if I messed with the trim or turned the wheel quickly - almost as if I was shaking something loose inside.
Motor still starts as always - rarely needs a choke to start.. and seems to run fine but that noise scares me.
My good friend went to school and has a marine mechanics license - and he's stumped, we pulled the LU - checked the fluids ETC - Plugs are good - compression was right around 120 on all 4 cylinders as well.. Ran it on the muffs and the noise was there from time to time but allot harder to hear running on the hose.
He's thinking it could be a bad bearing .. looking for any other clue or recommended next steps without dropping more than my set up is actually worth at a shop and before I rip it apart if not needed. .
Thanks for the time.
