Hi Guys,

New to the borum and relatively new to the boating/outboard scene.

Purchased a 14 ft alum. with an 88 20hp johnson on it. Motor ran fine with muffs.

Maiden voyage this weekend. Motor was running great for about an hour. Moving the boat along well.

Without a working depth finder we ended up in very shallow water. Not enough to ground the boat but enough for the engine to hit. There were no rocks or anything like that. The bottom was mud and sand. After getting out of that mess, the motor was not right again.

In neutral the motor would be very slow to respond to the throttle (linkage was fine). I would open up the throttle and having no increase in rpms for 5-10 seconds, then either a jump to high rpms or a bog down and stall.

In gear the action was very similar/leaning more towards the bogging down and stalling.

Could the impeller have gotten clogged/damaged with mud/silt when we ran aground? There is still water "peeing" out the telltale, but I am not sure if it is like it should be, as I am not that experienced.

Before the maiden voyage I put in new plugs with the proper gap setting. Greased everything and changed the lower unit oil.

Help PLEASE!

Aaron
