'88 70 HP Johnson 3 cyc..stalls at idle but...

The engine stalls at idle when the lift is all the way down.....but if I raise the engine a few inches, it idles perfectly!!!!<br /><br />Anyone have any ideas?<br /><br />Thanks.

Remove the carbs and check the float levels. Should be parallel with the carb body float bowl mounting surface. Then again, if it works when you raise it a bit, I would not worry about it, if it runs good at other RPM's...
