The engine starts right away from a cold start and runs fine. But if I shut the engine down and let it sit (at anchor for example), the engine will not restart.

I have a hunch it is the "choke/primer". Anyone have any ideas?

Any response is much appreciated.

I had that happen recently with a 70. As preventive maintenance I installed a new primer bulb and the check valve was faulty. It was evidently sucking the fuel back out of the carbs when I shut the motor down. The old bulb went back on and the hard starting stopped.

Thanks Bill. The primer bulbs on both gas tanks are new and the problem occurs on both tanks. Any other ideas?

How about the gas caps? I had a friend that had a similar problem with an older 70 HP, and the gas cap was plugged or something, he replaced the cap and the problem went away. Only thing with your problem is that it is happening with two tanks. If they are the same age, who knows, it might be worth a try.
