I figure I'm just going to post all of my boat problems and hopefully one day be able to get through them all and have a great boat! Ok this is the 4th Full tank of gas that I've put into it. The boat mechanic told me to add 2.5 ounces The Quicksilver outboard two cycle oil To every 1 gallon of gas I pump into it. I did 1 treatment of sta-bil two tanks ago but have not added sense but this thing won't stop smoking. It's almost Embarrassing with it and idle because it smokes so much. I am leaving Wednesday to go up north Wisconsin fishing and boating for the week And the last thing I want to do is have my daughter on a tube Behind the boat getting smoke in her face. What can I do to stop the smoke without harming the engine?

The amount of oil you are using is right. Are you putting the oil in before you pump the gas so it mixes in well right ? if you are putting it in after you put the gas in it's probably going to the bottom of the tank.

I'm no expert on this but maybe you need to decarb the engine. They make a spray can of SeaFoam or look at Mercury Power Tune. You can do the engine on the hose or at the lake for a few minutes - then shut it off for 15 minutes or more then start it up - it will smoke a lot but will clean the engine. I did it a few times when I got my engine last year and it helped it run a little better. But I didn't really have a smoking issue - just when starting it the 1st time each day.

when you are done pull the spark plugs and clean them.

if that doesn't help make sure your fuel mixture is correct - maybe you have it too rich.

One man's smoke is another's perfume. These two cycle engines burn oil and therefore smoke. If your car burned a quart of oil for every twelve gallons of gasoline you used, that is a quart for every 200 miles or so. You would get pulled over laying a smoke screen like that.

The smoke is very noticeable at idle when the idle relief is working and wind blows it back into the boat. But, at speed, it should be buried in the water and not be objectionable.

Synthetic oil is supposed to reduce smoking.

Well I have ran 1 can of sea foam threw it plus now the stabil and have sprayed fogger carb cleaner but someone told me its not good to clean the Carbs out cause I'm defeating the purpose of the oil fuel mixture. Again I don't know much about this so he may be wrong?

Stabil will cause more smoke as will sea foam. My 85 is a smoke buggy upon the first startup of each morning out. Yes, it is a little embarrassing when your at a dock filled with $60k 4 stroke boats, but hey, love it or leave it right? As Frank said, its pretty normal for it to smoke.

Some, yes. Embarrasingly excessive is another thing. Do the fuel recirculation system cleanout.

Buy a 2 stroke mixing cup, they rock (possible putting to much oil in?)

And I found the Mercury brand 2 stroke sold at walmart does not smoke much (syn).

Well ill give all suggestions a shot! I personally don't mind it smoken. But when the wife is laying out on the back deck next to the engine sleeping and wakes real fast thinking the house is on fire its pretty funny! Until I get a smack in the back of the head. I told her like Tater76 mentioned I said to her " I'm sorry honey... See that shinny skeeter over there... The one that says 300hp on the back? We could get that one... It's not smoking" HA! Then she's fine with it... Damnit.... I'm on my way up to boulder junction wi for a week of muskie fishin. If I don't catch one its ok ill just smoke them out along with the loons and moose!
