This is my first large outboard. When I move the throttle the linkage moves ok and what I suppose is the timing advance at the flywheel moves but the cam dosen't move the throttle levers on the carbs until the lever is full forward then it is a matter of about 1 1/2 inches from throttle plates closed to full open, this can't be right. ant thoughts?

Re: 88' force 125 throttle

Depending upon what you are seeing, it could be correct. The throttle cam when correctly adjusted will only open the butterflies about 1/4 inch or so until the control lever is about at 3/4 throttle. This is an economy device that advances timing fully at "Cruise" speed and only opens the carbs fully for maximum power. Go to the top and read the synchronizing post in FAQs.
