88 force 50hp, 507x8d, im pretty sure i got a new bearing in my sights i will know shortly, but my question is how to remove the old one. My thoughts are a slide hammer? My seloc manual does not cover this.

To remove that upper bearing you need a special puller tool T-8964.
Remove with a sliding hammer will be hard. But maybe worth a try.
If you have a lathe you can make one by turning to right diameter for the tool to fit to the bearing outer diameter.
To pull the bearing out with the T-8964 or similar home made tool you have to disassemble the lower part of the gear case and split it at the lower line where the lower taper bearing for the pinion gear is located.
Then you pull out the upper bearing with tool from bottom and up.
